Post-doctoral Research Fellow

Steve completed his BSc in Chemistry with Industrial Placement in 1998 at the University of Bath. He then stayed to do a PhD with Dr Michael Willis entitled “Metal Catalysed Reactions of Olefins with Carbonyls”, investigating Desymmetrising Ene Cyclisations and Prins Reactions (1998-2002). He moved to work for Dr Chris Frost, 2002-2004, as a Knowledge Transfer Partnership Associate with Molecular Sensing plc (now Atlas Genetics Ltd) synthesising electrochemical labels for the development of an electrochemical DNA biosensor. This work continued with Dr Toby Jenkins (2004-2006) improving the electrode geometry to increase sensitivity of improve incorporation into a medical device. He joined the James Group in August 2006 and is now investigating the synthesis of novel glucose sensors for monitoring blood-sugar levels.
